Jodi Cowdery is a native Australian student joining the network. She is starting her PhD under the supervision of Andrew Taylor.
"I am a proud long-term Territorian, originally from Queensland, and am a descendant of the Kunja people from the Cunnamulla region, as well as having English, Irish and Scottish ancestry. I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), a Bachelor of Laws, and a Master of Justice. I have over 15 years' experience working for both Commonwealth and Territory Governments including senior roles in law and policy, compliance and enforcement, and economic regulation of utilities and major infrastructure.
I have a strong interest in justice and how to create fairer systems within society. I am curious about the relationships between mining and Indigenous livelihoods and am keen to explore the opportunities and challenges mining presents for Indigenous peoples. I am particularly interested in consent and Indigenous rights, the political economy of mining, and understanding who does and does not benefit from mining. I am looking forward to exploring these questions and contributing to the global network, as I embark on my PhD journey with the Northern Institute".
